Non-Surgical Treatement Solutions

The choice to have surgery of any kind is not to be taken lightly. Due to lack of accessible, high-quality, Dr. provided PET treatment, we must often make so with non-surgical solutions. Please note that each person is completely different and what works for one person, may not work for another

  • Lifestyle Adjustments: These may include hydration, positional changes, and lifestyle adjustments.

  • Intranasal Treatments: Intranasal treatments may involve moisturizing sprays to reduce dryness and ease symptoms, as well as bulking agents or nasal insufflation techniques.

  • Pharmacologic Therapies: Pharmacologic treatments for PET may include nasal sprays to dry or thicken the mucosa, estrogen drops to promote tissue thickening, or sedatives and muscle relaxants to ease sensory hyperawareness.

  • Infrared Light Therapy: This therapy is mentioned as a potential treatment to stimulate microcirculation, reduce inflammation, and calm the parasympathetic nervous system, which could help normalize the function of the tensor veli palatini muscle that controls the opening and closing of the Eustachian tube.

  • Myofascial and Myofunctional Therapy: Myofascial therapy can target tension in the head, neck, and jaw, which may ease PET-related discomfort. Myofunctional therapy may improve swallowing mechanics and address jaw dysfunction that can influence ear pressure regulation.
